Build with the best: Blocks of Wisdom

Build With Wisdom

Wisdom is a builder. If you want to build your business, your family, yourself, or any other area of your life, you need wisdom.  It is the principal material of choice if you want longevity, security, and purpose in what you build.

A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense.

Proverbs 24:3 NLT

Wisdom will strengthen and fortify anything that it is connected to.  Our businesses need to be built in a way that can endure the challenges and oppositions that come against them. The same is true for our marriages and families, but how do we get wisdom involved in each of these areas of life? The bible gives us a starting location:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…”

Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the Lord speaks of a deep reverence for God, it can seem like a daunting phrase, but I like the way my friend John Bevere defines it: “Love what God loves and Hate what God hates.”

When we use this lens to see the product of our life, we can remove the things and ways that God despises and promote and pursue the things that God loves. Do our practices in the workplace reflect what is important to God? Do our policies regard people, integrity, and unity, have we made allowances for lying or talented people that create discord in our teams?

What God Loves

When we become familiar with the things that God loves and we start to incorporate them into our lives we will experience His grace and favor in that area. This is foundational for having a supernatural business.  Here are a few building blocks that you can use today – God Loves:

  1. People – For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.
  2. Integrity –  God hates cheating in the marketplace; he loves it when business is aboveboard. Prov 11:1 MSG
  3. Unity - How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!... For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. Psalms 133:1&3
  4. Holiness – People who are dedicated to him. The Lord your God is the faithful God who for a thousand generations keeps his promises and constantly loves those who love him and who obey his commands. Deuteronomy 7:9 TLB
  5. Cheerful Givers - Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
  6. Faith – A trust and confidence in God. “And without faith, it is impossible to please God…” Hebrews 11:6
  7. Humility – Those who are God-dependent.  Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. James 3:13 MSG

What God Hates

God hates when people look at other people with arrogance. He hates lying. God despises someone who hurts an innocent person and turns away from people who plan to do the wrong thing. A person who lies under oath and a troublemaker who disrupts the unity of a group.

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Proverbs 6:16-19
