Job Site Leadership - Can 5 Minutes make a Difference?
Job Site Leadership - Can 5 Minutes make a Difference?
In my industry, our work is mostly done on location. Most of the MRC workforce do not come into our main offices for their job and so I make it part of my routine to visit the job sites. This is such an important appointment for me in my regular routine and particularly during the Christmas holidays as we celebrate with a lunch for everyone. This appointment has been crucial to our success and longevity, and I want to tell you why.
There are many things that can be done using technology, meetings through video conferencing, calls, emailing and text are essential, however, never underestimate what gets communicated when you show up in person and how much can be accomplished, even in a short time. You communicate a lot when you make the time to show up and celebrate people. I have a personal goal to shake hands and share my appreciation and gratitude with every person on the job site. Another crucial element that shows value to each person is to pray for them. Prayer is a core value for me and one of the greatest gifts given to us.
"The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."
James 5:16b NLT
At a recent job site holiday celebration, I had the opportunity to pray for our workers and share testimonies from 20 years of prayer at MRC. We celebrated and thanked God for individuals and family members that have been healed, for workers that were able to buy their first house, for marriages that have been put back together and the thousands of people we have seen come to Jesus.
Why We Pray
I consider the role and influence I have been given in my company to be a spiritual appointment as much as a professional one. In fact, I don’t consider there to be a hard line between my spirituality and my profession. They both are a part of me and work together in unison in my life as God intends. There are many ways to pray but the emphasis in our prayer times is always people. We pray for marriages, families and their well-being. We pay for godly character and characteristics. This has been a key to the way we pray. There is certainly a place to pray for the business and for beneficial results, however generally our focus on the jobsites is people.
Equipping our Team
Jesus’ disciples saw the importance and power of prayer in His life and asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. I don’t think that it is unimportant that the people who spent the most time with Jesus perceived this practice to be a key to the success of His life. We have created a simple prayer card to keep that we give anyone that wants one. If you want to see it, you can check it out here:
Part of our routine as a company is to have an optional prayer time every Wednesday. I am always surprised at how many people attend these job site prayer meetings, everybody does. The 5-10 mins consists of someone sharing a scripture and then praying together through the card.
Can 5-10 mins make that much difference? When a few hundred people start praying the same prayer at the same time. The answer is yes.
