The Ultimate Wisdom Killer and Its Antidote
Increasing and Decreasing in Wisdom
In the pursuit of wisdom, there seems to be a consistent attribute that increases its growth. It is a character trait that can be a challenge to adopt but doing so causes exponential increase. Its counterpart is a wisdom killer. It undoes wisdom’s work and negates any forward momentum, often moving you backward. These attributes are humility and pride.
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2 NIVTweet
The Way to Grow
If you want to grow in wisdom you have to grow in humility. This is a challenging dichotomy especially when it comes to business. Humility is often seen as a sign of weakness, something you keep far from the boardroom. A trait that can be exploited by the sharks around you that want to get ahead. Don’t confuse humility with humiliation. The truth is that humility is the gate that wisdom rushes through.
“Put simply, real humility is being dependent on God, rather than yourself. It’s realizing it’s not about you, it’s about Him…The word picture for humility is of a powerful horse directed by a small bridle. A two-thousand-pound animal many times the size of its rider is directed and guided by only a small device. It’s the same for us- when we’re humble and completely God-dependent, we can follow His sense of peace and be empowered by His strength. We have been trained not to depend on anything. We’ve learned relying on someone else is bad…True humility is being God-dependent.”
”Excerpt from Supernatural Business” Mike Rovner
When we embrace humility, we become like a conduit for the wisdom of God. Bringing wisdom into the workplace will help you in decision-making, navigate relationships, think more creatively, and operate on a higher level.
Wisdom Killer
The fastest way to cut off Godly wisdom in your life is to be proud. Pride (in this case) is not just feeling good about yourself; It’s vanity, ego, and self-centered reliance. We become most susceptible to this way of thinking and action when we feel under pressure – usually when we most want the spout of wisdom to be turned on. It can be pressure that comes externally from other people or internally, like standards you create for yourself. Beware, pride is a robber and can be destructive both professionally and relationally. The arrogant attitude resists help and limits the exponential benefits of unity and collaboration.
The greatest expression of humility is prayer. One, if not the biggest, key to Supernatural business is prayer. If you need to release wisdom into a work situation, pray for it. It might be a staff situation, a company direction, or something completely different, regardless I believe that prayer is the answer.
